    The Malamute Insulator Jacket is an extremely versatile piece that can be worn as a stand-alone jacket, layered underneath the hardshell, or zipped-in to the Hardshell to provide additional warmth on cold days. This technical piece is designed to keep active kids warm without causing them to overheat and sweat. The synthetic 3M™ Thinsulate™ insulation is strategically body-mapped with thicker insulation throughout the core (100 grams) and lighter insulation throughout the arms (60 grams). Additionally, synthetic insulation is extremely breathable and low profile for enhanced freedom of movement for active kids. The face fabric of the jacket is treated with a Durable Water Repellency (DWR), but if it should get wet for any reason, the synthetic insulation will continue to retain heat.

A quality, everyday, insulated "puffy" jacket from other brands cost $100 or more and is in addition to buying a winter/ski/snowboard jacket. We designed the Akita insulator to be that perfect year-round lightweight jacket yet also do double-duty as the insulation layer that zips into our winter hardshells.

Water resistant, high warmth-to-thickness ratio retains body heat while maintaining breathability and enhanced freedom of movement.

ZIP-IN COMPATIBLE

The Akita Insulator can be zipped into the Xena Hardshell (sold separately) on cold winter days to function as one integrated jacket.

2-WAY SLEEVE LENGTH ADJUSTMENT

Rather than sleeves that only extend by ripping a seam and sacrifice waterproofness, our Adjust-A-Fit System allows sleeves to be shortened for a custom fit today, lengthened as kids grow, and then re-shortened for a hand-me-down later.

Water Resistant

A DWR (Durable Water Repellency) finish makes the Insulator water resistant.

Great light weight insulator

My daughter loves the jacket. She seems to be always cold. So, I bought it as an extra insulating layer under her current insulated ski parka. It's doing its job as we've had no complaints about our latest ski outing. It's become her go-to jacket around town as well. We had an issue with the zipper when we first got it and Shred Dog replaced it really quickly, with no problems, to get it in time for our upcoming ski trip. Thanks SD!

Size Guides

SHRED DOG size guides are based on body size not garment measurements.

Please note that all SHRED DOG products are designed to layer, therefore each product is cut and sized to accommodate the appropriate layers underneath it. 

Fit

If you want a "true to size" fit today with minimal room to grow, order the size that your kid falls into on the charts below.

If you want a "looser" fit with more room to grow, we recommend ordering 1 size up and using the Adjust-A-Fit System to shorten the sleeves or pant legs. As kids grow, the sleeves and pant legs can extend with them (only on Hardshells, Insulators, and Pants).

How To Measure

To get the best fitting products please take a few minutes to measure your kid following these simple steps.

For all measuring use a flexible tape. If you do not have a flexible measuring tape, you can you a piece of string etc. to take the initial measurement and then hold it up to a construction style measuring tape.

1) Chest - Measure horizontally around the fullest area of the chest (underneath the arms) with the arms down
2) Waist or Hip – use whichever measurement is bigger to select your final size
a) Waist - Measure horizontally around the narrowest part of the waist, (which is about 2 inches above the belly button)
b) Hip - With feet together measure around the fullest point of the hip,  keeping the tape measure horizontal
3) Sleeve Length - With arms in their natural position down by the side, start at point where the spine meets the base of your neck, measure out to the shoulder, then down to the wrist bone
4) Inseam Length - From crotch, along inside of the leg, to the floor.

 

*NOTE - All outerwear pieces (Hardshells, Insulators, and Pants) can have the sleeves and pant legs reduced up to 2" with our Adjust-A-Fit system. As kids grow, the sleeves and pant legs can grow with them.
