How To Layer

Families that ski and snowboard know that it is essential to have the right gear for the conditions, otherwise nobody is having fun. At SHRED DOG we believe in the old adage, "there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear." Our products have been proven in some of the harshest conditions, from frigid temperatures in Canada, to sleet and rain in the northeast, PNW, and southeast. Our performance outerwear is waterproof, breathable, and durable. All of the other complementary products are designed to integrate underneath the outerwear as a comprehensive skin-to-shell layering system to provide the maximum versatility in any weather conditions.

Our Goal: To keep your family comfortable and thriving no matter the conditions. Your day should never cut short by kids getting wet, cold, or even overheated.

Below we outline some different layering combinations for a variety of conditions and take the guesswork out of building your system.

THE ULTIMATE FORM OF VERSATILITY

"Summer skiing on Mount Hood is wild. The temperature at 6am was 30 degrees. By 11am it was nearly 70 degrees. The SHRED DOG layering system was incredibly versatile and our son to be comfortable and dry ALL day! I have never seen such a well thought out layering system for kids!"

Layer for Max Warmth

All kids handle the cold differently. As they become more acclimated they may not need as much warmth throughout their system as on their first day. That is the beauty of layers. You have everything you need to prevent your kids from getting cold, and you can add or remove layers to keep them comfortable, warm and dry no matter what mother nature has in mind.

Integrate Your Insulation

In these conditions the hardshell and bib/pant provide a waterproof and windproof exterior. The Element Insulator provides the warmth, and the baselayer provides next to skin comfort. For parents that want less products to keep track of in the lodge, the insulator is designed to zip-in to the hardshell turning two separate jackets into one. For kids that run cold, we recommend adding the foundation baselayer bottoms as needed.

The Optimal Amount of Cool

If you have ever fallen in the slush, gotten soaked, and then been wet and cold for the rest of the day then you already know how miserable that is. Our uninsulated, and highly breathable hardshell excels at keeping you dry, without overheating. Open up your underarm and thigh vents to get a nice breeze, and don't hesitate to send it through the slush! Or forgo the waterproof protection and just rock the Insulator or Fleece over a Baselayer.
